Morag Myerscough was a guest speaker on an AUB webinar this week. She\u2019s recently had her exhibition \u201cBelonging\u201d at the AUB Gallery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMorag has always been fascinated by how colour, pattern and words can change urban environments and people\u2019s perceptions of spaces into places\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\u2019s primarily a colour-loving installation artist who has always struggled to belong. Her colour-saturated, personal, cheerful, and bold, exhibition is about Belonging. It was really interesting hearing her speak about her early years as a student at Central St Martins, and because she didn\u2019t live in halls of residence (coming from Holloway), she felt she didn\u2019t really fit in and couldn\u2019t connect with the other students. Her autobiographic exhibition features amongst others, family photos of her at a similar stage in her life to her French grandmother. She likes to take fragments of her old and new work, and often her inspirations follow through her body of work, a continual \u201cwork in progress.\u201d She likes to work from \u201ca continuity of ideas\u201d. Much of Morag\u2019s work is community-based installation projects, involving the local community and creating places from spaces to give people a sense of identity and belonging. \u2013 Oh, and her preferred supplier of choice is Brewers, and she likes Dulux Weathershield paint (they sponsor her). She mixes her own colours, and is probably using the same shades as she used from her Central St Martin\u2019s days. Who doesn\u2019t like Dulux paint? She uses Bristol paints for her neon colours.
