Monsters brief

Designing and making a model monster – first creating three A3 sheets of double sided textures using texture buzz words, done quickly. I used string Satsuma netting and mono printed the pattern to replicate scales.  I also mono printed feathers in a pattern for the feathered one, and used an old washing up brush to make the fur texture. My final monster is yellow and fuchsia and he looks a little like a dragon but with two blue tongues, a giraffe-ish head and many feet.  I felt this was a little childish task in the outset, but once I got into it, it took me out of my comfort zone, I began to think laterally and enjoyed this. I was quite pleased with my outcome, although I felt it was a little childish–looking. (Maybe that was the point?).

Getting the model of the monster to stand up independently took some testing, but I succeeded, and fitted all the sections for it onto an A4 sized pattern sheet as per the brief. The type of eyes used can definitely make or break a monster’s looks. They change the whole look of it.
