Drawing and Formal Composition. A really helpful exercise in using tone, line, negative space, looking at the formal elements, rabatment, placement etc … The matchbox mini items sketch was fun. Everything had to be done so quickly that I did find it a rush to keep up. I’m slow at drawing. I used a scratchy Unipin black fineliner but I don’t like it much. Will find a more flowing liner such as the Pigma Micron ones which glides well. I SO need to practice life drawing (haven’t done any for over a year and I’m crap at drawing people – especially hands and limbs!) The doors and doorways part was interesting to think about liminal space, and what you can view through a doorway at different angles of opening … implied thought etc. The 360 degree sketch was difficult to get a continuous line, I kept looking up and down instead of fixing on a line. I want to practice this again, maybe also using a panoramic iPhone camera photo next time.
